Virtual Accountant is a Swiss fiduciary company with a modern take on accounting – digital where it makes sense, personal where it matters. We worked with them to rethink the brand from the ground up, from strategy and identity to the website and its development.
Accounting comes with a lot of structure, rules, and numbers. We didn’t want the brand to add more weight to that. Instead, we built a visual identity that feels clear, direct, and a little unexpected for the industry.
While developing the identity, we kept coming back to the contrast between traditional accounting and the way Virtual Accountant works. The more analog side of accounting made us think of squared paper – grids, boxes, and numbers written down by hand. Virtual Accountant, on the other hand, is built around digital processes. That same grid suddenly became something else: pixels.
That idea became the starting point for the logo. We built the symbol from squares, forming the initials VA in a loose, fluid way. It’s recognizable enough to read as Virtual Accountant, but abstract enough to work beyond it. The pixel shapes are deliberately soft and slightly bouncy, taking something very structured and giving it a bit more personality.
Next to the symbol sits a simple Swiss sans serif wordmark. The system was designed so that “Virtual Accountant” can easily be replaced by the name of a future sub-brand or company, while the symbol stays the same. This gives the identity room to grow without losing recognition.
The same balance between structure and movement runs through the wider design system. Strong typography and simple layouts create a clear framework, while moving gradients add a more fluid, digital layer to the brand.
We carried that idea through the entire website. Information is kept straightforward and easy to navigate, while motion, gradients, and interaction give the experience its own character. The goal wasn’t to turn an accounting company into a tech startup – it was simply to create something that feels as modern as the way Virtual Accountant actually works.
A big part of their offer is making things easier for clients: less admin, fewer complicated processes, and more time to focus on their business. We wanted the brand to communicate that same feeling – uncomplicated, efficient, and approachable.
Alongside the brand strategy and visual identity, we created a full brand book and designed and developed the website from scratch. Every part of it – from the layout and typography to the motion and responsive behavior – was built as one connected system.
In the end, we wanted Virtual Accountant to look nothing like the typical fiduciary company, without trying too hard not to. Clear, modern, precise – with just enough movement to make accounting feel a bit more interesting.
